Minerva Lodge No. 250 is the oldest continuous Lodge in the City of Kingston upon Hull. Our Lodge was founded in 1782, and was regularly constituted by warrant in 1783.
The ancient trading Port City of Kingston upon Hull lies at the confluence of the River Hull and Humber Estuary on the East Coast of England. For centuries, Hull has been a premier trading port with europe and the rest of the world. Unsurprisingly, during our Lodge's history, we have attracted many members from far and wide, many of whom were merchants, mariners, and members of military and naval forces. These visitors came from Germany, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Holland, France, Italy, Russia, the United States of America, and Van Dieman's Land (Tasmania).
When our Lodge was founded (1782), the first successes in balloon flight were being realised, and this period was just before the invention of the telephone. Its survival is due in no short measure to the outstanding contributions and commitments of past Worshipful Masters and Brethren who have contributed to our unique character - the use of the Humber Ritual, for example, is peculiar only to a small part of the Province. Visitors to our site are invited to view our history pages.
In England & Wales, and in addition to the Metropolitan Grand Lodge of London which administers the London Lodges, there are 47 Masonic Provinces under the jurisdiction of the United Grand Lodge of England (U.G.L.E.) for Craft and Chapter Freemasonry. These Provinces roughly correspond to the old County boundaries and vary in respect to the number of Lodges they administer. Minerva Lodge No. 250 is within the Province of Yorkshire, North and East Ridings which you can visit via our links page.
You are invited to sign our visitors book at the end of this site.
